The Ultimate 10-Step Monthly Reset Routine

Suppose it is the 31st day of the month. Upon reflection, you find that you haven’t achieved anything significant in the past month. In fact, you are uncertain about what you’ve done during this time. This is certainly not a pleasant realization to have.

Consider this: Did you begin the month with intention and focus? Did you formulate a plan or a “blueprint” for the month? Most likely, your answer is “no.”

As the saying goes, “If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.”

I’m being quite blunt with you here, but that’s the reality.

Sometimes, difficult life circumstances can derail even the best-laid plans. In that instance, you are granted a pass for the month.

Now that you’ve had a reality check, let’s think about this positively. A new month is approaching. Each new month is a fresh start! Every week or even every day can be a clean slate for you as well. You don’t have to wait for a whole new year.

Now’s your chance to step it up and make something of your month! Don’t miss this opportunity to create a month you are proud of and look back at it with joy and achievement.

  • What will you prioritize this coming month?
  • What can you do to set your month up for success?

Welcome to your Monthly Reset Guide, which contains 10 steps designed to help you begin your new month on the right foot.

10 Steps to a Productive and Achievable Monthly Reset

First of all, what exactly is a monthly reset?

A monthly reset is a list of tasks to consider and address before each new month begins, ensuring you are prepared to start the new month with intention and focus. It’s a way to reflect on what’s important to you in the coming month.

This includes everything from setting goals, to decluttering and organizing, to planning and completing administrative tasks.

Enter a new month with vision and clarity. Not merely going with the flow and hoping that you’ll have a productive and healthy month. Be someone who tackles challenges head-on. Be a person who consistently completes a monthly reset routine to set yourself up for success.

Here’s my Monthly Reset template all filled out for this month! Let’s go through each of the steps of the reset now.

Step #1: Write out your goals for the month.

Goals, intentions, or whatever you decide to call them, serve as a guide for what you want to focus on and achieve this month.

Review your yearly goals and identify specific monthly goals and habits you intend to prioritize this month. I have an entire blog post devoted to setting monthly goals, so check it out here: MONTHLY GOALS: HOW TO SET GOALS & ACTUALLY ACHIEVE THEM.

Keep it simple if you want. If you’re new to goals, just pick 1 or 2 to focus on for your first month. Identify these & write them down. Look at them often to ensure you are making progress!

My monthly goal #1: Make 4 new recipes this month.

My monthly goal #2: Have “Digital Detox” days (4 this month). This means that 1 day per week I will spend phone-free. No social media, YouTube, etc. I can answer phone calls and respond to text messages, but I will take a break from all other phone usage.

My monthly goal #3: Complete 3 strength training workouts a week.

Step #2: Consider a Word for the Month and a 30-Day Challenge.

You are likely familiar with the concept of selecting a Word of the Year, a word that will be the focal point for your entire year. Instead, consider breaking this down into months, depending on what you wish to concentrate on each month.

Balance. Peace. Focus. Joy. What do you want to strive for this month?

For this month, I’m choosing Peace. My desire is to feel God’s peace in my life, throughout the unknowns of my life. I’m striving for feelings of peace. Peace in my heart, my home, and my relationships.

Another fun practice to adopt each month is a 30-Day Challenge! This can be a healthy habit that you genuinely wish to implement into your life, that you’re going to commit to for 30 days.

Whether it be 30 days of walking, 30 days of reading, 30 days of waking up at 5 am or a No-Spend for 30 days, there are numerous challenges you could undertake for the month. It’s incorporating 1 habit to practice every single day for an entire 30 days.

For February 2025, my challenge is to wake up at 5 am every weekday (and 5:30 am on weekends).

Step #3: Complete a Digital Declutter.

This is pretty self-explanatory, but whatever digital devices you have, take the time to “declutter” them. Your phone, your computer, and your camera.

All 15,000 pictures you have (48 in a row of your toddler’s blurry face). Take time each month to delete those unnecessary pictures. What apps are you no longer using (or apps you’re using too much!) and need a break from? Free up space on your phone and make room for what matters!

It’s good to get in the habit of taking care of the excess in your digital world at least monthly. Spend time organizing your electronic space more efficiently as well, if time allows.

You can check this off on your Monthly Reset printable upon completion.

Step #4: Take care of scheduling & administrative tasks.

I am consolidating all administrative tasks into this single step.

Schedule any necessary appointments. Think dentist, doctor, therapist, haircuts, dog grooming, vet, plus anything else that applies to your life. Having kids and pets definitely leads to more appointments. If there are any you’ve been putting off, a new month is a great time to get it checked off your list.

Add any events to your calendar, whether they be school-related, church-related, extra curriculars, family get-togethers, appointments, and the list continues. If forms need to be filled out, get on top of that now. Have any papers or bills slipped through the cracks? Now is the perfect time to get caught up with those tasks.

You’ll feel like a weight has been lifted off your shoulders once completing this step! And you’ll be so much more organized for the month ahead. Looking for more motivation to be more organized this year, check out this recent blog post: 10 HABITS OF A HIGHLY ORGANIZED WOMAN.

Step #5: Plan social activities.

These are the fun things in life! I’ve realized that if I don’t plan these ahead of time, they are less likely to happen.

There’s no better time than with a fresh month upon you! Whether it be planning a few family activities, day trips, or playdates with friends, now’s the time to do it. Text a friend to set up a playdate next week. Buy tickets for the movie your family wants to see. Do some research on the festival happening a couple towns over. Get some enjoyable activities on the calendar for some good, quality family time. But don’t overdo it either!

Have you forgotten about yourself and your own social calendar? Or is it non-existent? Why not connect with a friend you haven’t seen in a while and plan a coffee date this month?

Life is all about balance! It’s great to be productive, but it’s equally important to be intentional in making memories with family and friends.

Step #6: Planning for the holidays.

My kids get such enjoyment out of the holidays and want to celebrate every little thing. I strive to make these holidays special for them every chance I get.

The Easter baskets, the Valentine’s goodies, the special holiday-themed treats, the red, white, and blue outfits—the list is endless.

Consider what items you need to purchase, such as home decor, treats, outfits, or craft materials. Explore Pinterest for ideas to celebrate each holiday or special occasion. Perhaps establish some traditions that your family looks forward to year after year but also incorporate new ideas as well.

This definitely requires thinking ahead, unless you want to be stuck with the leftovers at Target. The pickings will be slim if you wait until the week of, so get a head start this year.

Step #7: Plan what books you want to read this month.

I understand that this step won’t be for everyone, but if you wish to immerse yourself in reading this year, make this part of your monthly reset. Take a moment to plan ahead and list out some books you desire to read. This could involve selecting a few books from your shelf or browsing your library’s website for a couple books that pique your interest.

You’re more apt to read if you have a book ready to go when you have some spare time. I have added 3 fiction books and 2 nonfiction books to my monthly reset printable that I plan to tackle this month.

Check out my new blog post about how to read more this year: HOW TO READ MORE THIS YEAR: 15 TIPS TO REACH YOUR READING GOALS. There are some amazing ideas to get you started reading, even if you’re not entirely convinced you’ll enjoy reading.

Still have no interest in reading? Perhaps you could choose a new relaxing hobby to start this month instead. Make plans to incorporate this hobby into your monthly calendar.

Step #8: Check in on your finances.

What exactly this means for you will vary for different individuals. If you are on a tight budget, it is advisable to review your budget and make necessary adjustments for the following month.

Consider asking yourself some questions concerning your finances for the upcoming month:

  • How can you improve your spending this month? Is there an area you overspent previously that you can cut back on this next month?
  • What big purchases are coming up this month?
  • How much do you want to save this month? And how do you plan on achieving that savings goal?

The Monthly Reset printable I use simply has a check box to fill in upon completing your financial check-in. If you desire to dive deeper with your finances, plenty of resources are available to you online.

Step #9: Organize and declutter a space in your home.

Just pick ONE space that is in dire need of a declutter.

If you keep up with your home on a daily and weekly basis, you won’t need to spend a whole day or weekend deep cleaning.

Instead, I recommend focusing on just one area in your home that you’ve been neglecting. If you focus on one area a month, that’s 12 spaces in a year! Definitely progress!

Let’s say you choose to focus on your entryway closet, dedicate however much time you can to the project and then move on. You have an hour? Work hard for an hour and then call it good.

My big decluttering project for this month is my daughters’ bedroom. The post-Christmas takeover of toys and other items has become overwhelming lately, so this is the top priority for me.

Step #10: Clean out your car and purse.

These are two areas I tend to neglect. Not intentionally, but nevertheless, they seem to get forgotten.

By taking the time each month to thoroughly clean your car, including wiping down the interior and vacuuming it, your car will feel refreshed for the new month.

Your purse, diaper bag, or other frequently used bags should also be restocked and cleaned out during your monthly reset. This doesn’t mean you should overlook this task for the rest of the month, but again, it’s a fresh start for the next month.

If you already stay on top of your car and purse, great! Maybe you could focus on your fridge or desk instead? Don’t forget to check each of these off on your Monthly reset guide!

Congratulations, you’ve completed all 10 steps!

Bonus Tip:

Have a monthly check-in with your spouse or partner (if applicable).

What is essential to discuss with your significant other? Probably your calendar and activities for the month, as well as finances and other family goals for the month.

You need to be on the same page with your partner in life. You will avoid much unnecessary miscommunication and stress if you communicate in advance. Be aligned with your goals and know what is on the calendar for the month to avoid becoming overbooked.

Your spouse can also be an accountability partner for you, as you complete your 30-Day Challenge and work towards your goals.

Reset and then Repeat Month After Month

It’s important to reset every month. I like to have my monthly reset complete before the 1st of the new month arrives. Allocate a couple of hours to sit down and fill out your Monthly Reset, then finish up the remaining checklist tasks and you’ll be good to go!

Feel free to add or remove any elements of this reset routine to make it work for YOU! Ensure that it suits your needs, your family, and your personality.

Don’t leave your new month up to chance! Take charge now and I guarantee you’ll be way more likely to have a successful month, focused on the things that are most important to you.

I have included the Monthly Reset Routine printable that I personally am using, which includes all 10 steps I explained in this blog post. Feel free to use it, month after month.

How to Read More This Year: 15 Tips to Reach your Reading Goals

Reading is my happy place. Ever since childhood, I have preferred reading above most other activities.

Now as a 35-year-old wife and mom, I love to begin and end each day with my nose in a good book. My goal this year is to read 52 books! Although I aspire to surpass that goal.

Your goals may be much simpler than this. Maybe you want to read one book per month this year and even that seems quite ambitious. Whatever your goal may be, you can achieve it.

The advantages of reading are plentiful, from increased focus and memory to reduced stress and improvement in your sleep. It’s clear that reading is so beneficial for you, so what’s holding you back?

15 Tips to Read More This Year!

Is one of your New Year’s goals to read more this year? You’ve come to the right place for tips and ideas to make reading a greater part of your life. Even if you’re a busy mom or work full-time, it is possible to find adequate time to read.

Even if you’re convinced you have literally no time left in the day for anything “extra,” I beg to differ. Try incorporating reading into the small pockets of time in your day or replace other “bad habits” you wish to eliminate (like watching too much TV).

It is possible to read much more than you think! Developing the habit may take time, but with thoughtful effort, you can become an avid reader in 2025. Are you with me?

Let’s embark on a marvelous reading journey this year!

1. Set a goal and track your progress.

How many books do you want to read this year? Pick a number that is achievable, but maybe a little challenging. That way you actually have to work towards it. My number is 52.

Next, you need to determine a way to track your progress. A way that is motivating to you and will encourage you to keep going.

Goodreads is an excellent app for tracking all the books you have read in a fun and convenient way. It allows you to monitor your reading progress, and provides reviews from other readers, as well as trending books to explore.

Here is my 2024 year-end summary provided by Goodreads. My goal was 52 books last year & I ended up reading an additional 5!

If you prefer to have a printable copy of a book tracker, check out these options.

I highly recommend having some way to keep track of your progress, as it will provide motivation. Seeing your progress will encourage you to make more progress!

Here’s a peek into Goodreads and some features that I use.

  • Currently Reading books – you can update your progress as you read through each book
  • Want to Read books – you can keep a list of books that people have recommended to you or ones you eventually desire to read
  • Read Books – shows all the books you’ve read
  • Reading Challenge – keep track of your progress for your 2025 reading goals

2. Get a library card.

I will never need to purchase a book again! Obtaining a library card can save a significant amount of money and reduce “book clutter.” While I highly appreciate books, I have found they can be overwhelming to purchase and continue adding to a bookshelf. Since I typically read most books only once, there is no practical reason to keep them around the house for years. You may feel differently and that’s totally okay.

But I think you will still see the benefits of frequently visiting your local library!

I always head to the new bookshelf first, where all the latest and greatest books can be found. I almost always find a winner right away.

If there’s a book I’ve been wanting to read, I can place a “Hold,” and the library clerk will call me when it’s available.

There’s something sort of magical about browsing the library bookshelves, with thousands of books at your fingertips. You can take any of them home with you for FREE; just return them 3-4 weeks later and choose more for FREE. This is great for children’s books too. My girls love to visit the library, and we’ll choose 20-30 books to borrow, which provides us with a great variety to read each night.

3. Invest in a Kindle.

This one was a game changer for me!

Before you tell me that you prefer a physical printed copy, I do too! But a Kindle Paperwhite is oh-so convenient! One of my best gifts ever, in fact! And I’m not exaggerating.

I bring it to the gym to read while speed walking on the treadmill. It makes its appearance at the park while my kids play on the playground. I even stick it in my purse to read while waiting at the doctor’s office. The potential locations for reading your Kindle are limitless.

You can read at night or in the car (as a passenger) even in the dark, as it has a day and night mode.

Have I convinced you yet? Check out the Kindle Paperwhite HERE on Amazon.

4. Utilize the Libby and Hoopla apps.

These two amazing apps, most likely provided free by your local library, are worth checking out! The number of digital resources available to you is truly astounding. With the click of a button, you are able to access e-books (where the Kindle comes in handy), audiobooks, movies, music, and more.

Here is a glance at the Libby app, completely free through my library. You’ll notice I have books placed on hold. One downside is that you will need to wait for some of the most popular titles. So, if you’re in a rush to read the most popular book of the year, it might not be available for an extended amount of time. In the meantime, thousands more are readily available.

You can even read samples first to see if a book appeals to you. I encourage you to explore these apps and then utilize them in your reading journey. I can’t even count how many books I’ve checked out from Libby and Hoopla; it’s definitely over 100 at this point!

5. Read books in genres that you enjoy most.

This one is probably pretty obvious, but it’s worth mentioning. If you intend to read more this year, you should definitely begin by selecting books that align with your interests.

Don’t start off by choosing non-fiction books if your interest lies within the fiction realm. Don’t choose a science fiction novel when you prefer romantic comedies.

Read what is enjoyable before challenging yourself to explore other genres. While expanding your reading horizons may be a future goal, it is advisable to start with what you know and love.

6. Set a specific time each day that you’ll dedicate to reading.

Whether it be 15 minutes or an entire hour, schedule it into your day. Just like an appointment that is scheduled into your day, schedule a chunk of time for reading as well. If it’s one of your goals for the year, it’s worth your time.

My favorite way to wind down most evenings is not watching Netflix (except on weekends) but reading. While you might still prefer watching a show, carve out time right before bed to crack open that book. Or maybe you have 30 minutes on your lunch break and want to dedicate that time to reading.

Whatever works best for your season of life, plan reading into your day. This will ensure that you are reading every day. You can’t just wing it and hope you have the time and energy at the end of the day. Because you probably won’t. If you aren’t intentional about making time, reading probably won’t happen most days. That’s just a fact of life.

7. Find an author you love and read all their books!

Maybe you’ll be like me and experience feelings of sadness when you’ve finished all the books by your current favorite author. But then, there’s the excitement of eagerly awaiting their next book release! Perhaps you can’t relate, but I have a feeling a few of you can.

Karen Kingsbury has always been at the top of my list for inspirational Christian fiction. I’ve read all her books and even her famous The Baxters book series has become a TV series.

As an author’s style evolves, there may be a couple of books that are somewhat different and a little disappointing. But try this tip and see how many books you can read this year by the same author.

8. Listen to audiobooks.

These count!

I am a visual learner, so I grasp more from actually reading words on a page. But, I plan on incorporating more audiobooks into my reading this year. You can definitely fit in tons more books than you’d think if you choose audiobooks as well.

You can listen while doing numerous household chores, driving in the car, working out at the gym, or while getting ready in the morning. Multitasking by adding something enjoyable (listening to an audiobook) during mindless activities, can make them a little less daunting. If you currently listen to music or watch a YouTube video while cleaning, why not try replacing that with a thrilling audiobook?

I started my first audiobook of the year: 10 hours long. Right off the bat, it sounds like a massive undertaking. Devoting 10 hours of my life to listening to an audiobook? However, considering I’m listening during my 30-minute walks each day, I’m making significant progress. And I’m looking forward to my walks each day! It’s a win-win.

9. Dedicate a larger chunk of time to get started on a new book.

Is the fear of “starting a new book” a thing? It sounds weird, but I have found that most of the time it’s quite difficult for me to get into a new book. I’ll need a bigger chunk of time, like 45 minutes to an hour of uninterrupted time to get a good start.

For some reason, it takes extreme concentration for me to get through the first couple of chapters and I’ll sometimes even read them twice. I want to ensure I have a good grasp on the characters: their names and who they are, before continuing with the story.

If this doesn’t apply to you, don’t worry about this tip! But if you can relate, block out some time when starting a new novel. You’ll be glad you did.

10. Don’t continue reading if you have no interest in the book.

Ok so don’t waste hours of your life trying to plod through a book you are not enjoying. You will not look back at that time fondly and may equate reading with being a “time waster.”

Reading is meant to be enjoyable. There are too many amazing books out there! It’s not worth your time to endure reading a book that is boring or just not your cup of tea. It is acceptable to have a DNF (did not finish) book on your list.

Here is your permission to let that book go. The one that was possibly recommended to you or is on all the bestseller lists. If it’s not for you, it’s not for you. Move on and find something you can enjoy wholeheartedly.

11. Carry a book with you at all times.

This sounds so nerdy, but I don’t mind. You know all those extra minutes you spend scrolling on your phone? At the doctor’s office. Waiting on your daughter’s dance class to finish. Waiting in the school pickup line.

Bring a book along to keep you company, rather than always turning to your phone! You’ll be sure to reach your reading goals more quickly that way.

I promise there’s nothing to be ashamed of. It’s rare to find someone reading, so it’s actually refreshing to me to spot someone who is reading rather than merely scrolling. And a kid with a book in hand rather than a screen makes my heart happy.

12. Join a book club or read a book recommended by a friend.

It’s always fun to discuss a well-loved book with someone else. My husband (a non-reader) could probably care less about the books I insist on replaying for him.

However, a friend that already read (and loved!) the book would love nothing more than to rehash favorite scenes with you.

I’ve never participated in a book club, but it would be worth checking out or starting one if you have friends who enjoy reading as well. It would also be a great way to keep yourself accountable for finishing a book on a deadline.

13. Set up the atmosphere.

Setting the ambiance is a great idea, especially if you have an hour (or an afternoon!) to spare.

Grab a cup of delicious, hot coffee or a cup of tea. Cuddle up in a soft, cozy blanket. Light a scrumptious-smelling candle and dim the lights. Make it a whole experience.

I guarantee you will enjoy reading much more if the atmosphere during reading makes you feel warm and happy. I know I do!

14. Read more than 1 book at a time.

Too extreme for you? You can skip this tip then!

I plan to read a non-fiction book and fiction book at the same time.

It’s amazing to me how some people have multiple fiction books going at the same time. I would get the characters and plots confused. But choosing non-fiction and fiction simultaneously seems doable, so that’s my challenge for this year.

Here’s my game plan: I will take about 15 minutes to read the non-fiction choice when my mind is clear and sharp. The fiction reading is more mindless for me, so this will be done about 30 minutes before bed (earlier if I’m in the mood for more).

15. Put your phone away.

Check out your phone usage for today. Check it now and see what it tells you. Have you spent 2 hours on your phone? 4 hours? More?

Take some time to just put it away. No scrolling on the apps. No watching YouTube videos. Sure, you can get some great information or motivation from it, but sometimes it needs to disappear for a while. See how much less time you can spend on your phone and how much more time this will equate to reading!

Here’s a challenge for you this week, will you accept it? Every time you are tempted to reach for your phone, reach for a book (or Kindle) instead!

Reading is Good for the Soul: Start Now!

Reading is one of the most rewarding hobbies you can start today! It won’t get boring due to the virtually endless supply of books available to you.

There is such variety in reading. So many genres and authors to choose from. Fiction or non-fiction. Want to learn more about a specific person? Check for a biography. Want to explore different cultures? Check out a book with a setting in a different county. Want to learn about literally any topic you can imagine? There’s surely a book that exists for you!

Whether you’re already an avid reader like myself, or haven’t read since college, you can start today. Think you don’t enjoy reading, then maybe you just haven’t found the right book (or genre yet). I encourage you to search out a new book series.

I hope you’re inspired to pick up a book you’ve always been meaning to read. Give it a little time and you never know, you might become a book lover after all!

I wish you the best on your 2025 Reading Journey!

10 Habits of a Highly Organized Woman

The misplaced keys. A missing library book. All the kid’s uniforms are dirty. The refrigerator is empty.

We’ve all had these problems in our lives on occasion.

But how often is this your reality?

  • Are you constantly searching for items that seemingly disappeared?
  • Are you routinely behind on laundry?
  • Do you run completely out of food before stocking up again?

If you want to be a little (or a lot!) more organized as a woman, a wife, and a mother, you’re reading the perfect blog post to reach your potential.

I have compiled 10 tips to help you become a more organized person. Spoiler Alert: It’s going to take some effort on your part. It’s not a simple or quick solution. In fact, it may be quite the journey for you. However, when you begin implementing these 10 methods, you can achieve the status of “A Highly Organized Person.”

So, what are the habits of an organized person? Keep reading to find out!

1. They plan ahead.

I don’t mean planning your year or your month down to a T. Life changes too quickly for that.

However, it is essential to organize your schedule.

Know what is happening and what is required of you to ensure things run smoothly.

Ideally, plan for the week ahead and then, the night before, plan and prepare for the following day.

An organized individual utilizes a planner, whether it is a physical planner or the Notes app on your phone. You need an effective system to refer to daily and weekly to stay on track with the family schedule and your responsibilities. Check out this planner that would be great for “planner newbies,” as it is undated and utilizes time blocking.

Time Blocking could be a great place to start if you have no idea how to structure your day. Check out my blog post explaining this method and how to get started using it successfully: TIME BLOCKING: A BEGINNER’S GUIDE.

Planning ahead is simply the first step in becoming more organized! It’s a great first step, but don’t stop there.

2. They have a “home” for everything.

If you want to be more organized, everything you own needs a specific place where it belongs (“a home”) and can be returned to when tidying.

Whether it be in a drawer, a cupboard, a closet, or a bin, each item needs a home to return to. If it doesn’t have a place, you need to create a place or “say good-bye” to said item (we’ll get to decluttering soon enough!)

Not closets overflowing with items that don’t fit. But a calm, organized spot for each item, where it can easily be returned by any member of the family when cleaning.

Pro Tip: Don’t bring a new item into your home, without having an assigned spot for it.

Let’s say you just received a bunch of gifts for your birthday. Now is the challenge to find a “home,” a spot where that item will live forever. You could just keep a pile of gifts on your dresser for months on end, but we can’t be an organized woman that way.

  • A new sweater: try it on & make sure you like it, wash it and put it with like sweaters in your closet.
  • A new kitchen gadget: prewash it and place in utensils drawer.
  • 5 birthday cards: put in a keepsake bin or possibly toss them.

Ponder this question: Is your house too small, or do you have too much?

3. They have a weekly reset routine.

Resetting your home each week is an essential step to set your week off on the right track!

You can’t wake up Monday morning, without a plan in place for the week ahead. That actually sounds like a nightmare to me. Maybe a little dramatic, but I highly encourage you to make a weekly reset a priority!

Check out my blog post on The Best Weekly Reset Routine: Prepare for the Week Ahead. Take care of the essentials for the week ahead, so you are not trying to play “catch up” all week long. For me, this includes meal planning, getting groceries, food prep, planning, and tidying the house. It can conclude with some self-care to help you relax and recharge as well.

This ensures you begin the week with adequate food (this is the biggest priority and most difficult aspect for many). Maybe for you it includes getting caught up (or ahead!) on laundry.

Identify the top tasks that would help you get a head start on your week and include those in your weekly reset routine. It may be a 1 hour reset or it could take most of your day, depending on your priorities.

4. They don’t procrastinate.

Instead, they get things done right away. They don’t leave to-do’s lingering for weeks on end.

Have you heard the saying, “Eat the frog?”

It simply means to get the hard things done first! Don’t wait until late afternoon when you’re tired and your energy is depleted. Complete those tasks you consider the most difficult, right away!

And those jobs you have put off for far too long, why are you still procrastinating? Ask yourself: is it really as hard as I’m making it seem? Most of the time, it really isn’t as difficult as we imagine it to be.

Or if the “Eat the Frog” method doesn’t work for you, go for “small wins” instead. Find a bunch of small tasks you can knock out quickly to give you momentum to keep on going.

It can be easy to push off to-dos until the absolute last minute, but if you truly want to be an organized person this year, you’ll need to work on this!

5. They declutter regularly.

I promised you decluttering would make its appearance on this list, and here it is!

Not just once a year, although a yearly decluttering challenge is an excellent way to purge and donate a bunch of unused items all at once. Here’s a 30-day Decluttering Challenge you might want to consider if your home is in dire need of a quick fix.

Regularly. What this means for you may be different than what it means for me.

It could be daily. See something you’re no longer using, put it in your donation box. Craft supplies and projects the kids are finished with, get rid of it.

It could mean weekly. Maybe you want to dedicate time each week to go through a particular drawer or closet.

You cannot wait until your house is out of control before you take charge of it. A little at a time will best keep you organized.

6. They clean as they go.

A simple habit like “cleaning as you go,” can make a dramatic impact over time!

While you’re cooking, put items away or wash dishes as you go.

While you’re moving from room to room, bring items that belong somewhere else with you.

If you only clean or put things where they belong once a week on your Saturday cleaning day, yes your cleaning day will take you literally all day long.

Avoid this at all costs!

I have implemented 10-minute tidies into my day I will set the timer for ONLY 10 minutes and tidy as much as I can within that time frame. This isn’t deep cleaning or anything like that, it’s simply putting items away. Back to their home! (as discussed in tip #2)

7. They write and stick to a to-do list.

Yes, the infamous to-do list. If you want to be organized, you’ve got to have some sort of a to-do list. It will help keep you focused on the tasks at hand. A to-do list will help you remember the most important duties you need to attend to each day.

I don’t care how you write your to-do list, just do it.

In your planner. A simple notebook. The Notes app in your phone. Sometimes I use both!

Pro Tip: Make it achievable! Don’t overwhelm yourself with 30 tasks in one day. Only include what is feasible for that day. You could have a “May Do” list that contains additional items if more time allows, but these should not add pressure to your day.

Then, you have to stick to it, of course. You can’t go off and start shampooing the carpets, if you have other more urgent tasks on your list. You can’t sit on the couch and binge watch the latest episodes of your favorite show.

You have to STICK TO your list (and reward yourself if you need to!) Make a coffee when you complete the first two items. Have a piece of dark chocolate when you finish two more items. Take a 10-minute scroll break. Simple rewards can make all the difference.

8. They start the day with a solid morning routine.

Oh, yes, the dreaded morning routine talk. Does this mean waking up super early? Maybe, but not necessarily.

The purpose of a morning routine is to set you up for success for the day ahead. If you are exhausted because you woke up at 5 am after only sleeping for 5 hours, this will benefit no one! Rest and sleep are so important.

We just had winter break over here and I found myself sleeping in with my girls every day until 8 am or after! I felt so behind all day, every day of break. The problem here was that I was receiving adequate sleep (9-10 hours!), I was just being lazy.

If it’s as simple as brushing your teeth, washing your face, filling your water bottle, & hydrating, that’s still a morning routine.

Determine what tasks you need to accomplish first thing. Things that are important to help you get ahead for the day. Getting yourself organized or the home organized BEFORE the kids wake up.

Because I promise you, you will never feel organized if your kids are waking you up every morning, demanding breakfast and your attention. You need to have the upper hand. If that means waking up 30 minutes earlier than normal, it will be worth it! Check out this blog post detailing my 4-Step Morning Routine; it will be sure to give you some inspiration for a morning routine that works for you and your current season of life.

9. They invest time in their self-care and self-development.

How in the world will self-care and self-development help me become more organized?

It’s all about balance. If you want to be organized in all aspects of your life, it is essential to allocate time to focus on all areas.

Taking time for self-care can help you reduce stress and get more focused for the job at hand. Feeling good about yourself, will help you feel more confident and successful.

Spending time at the beginning of your day to work on yourself can dramatically improve the success of your day. I tried out the Miracle Morning Routine and loved including so many self-development activities first thing in the morning: MIRACLE MORNING ROUTINE: WAKING UP AT 5 AM.

10. They have routines and rhythms for the day.

Notice I didn’t say a strict, set schedule. A routine. A rhythm. A flow for the day.

  • What do you need to do before the kids get up?
  • What needs to be accomplished before leaving the house?
  • What tasks need to be completed each evening?

And everything in between!

You’ll feel more organized and competent, if you know what to expect. If you’re one step ahead.

Here are some examples, but always find what is applicable to your needs and priorities. Start the dishwasher every night after dinner. Prep the school lunches in the evenings. Charge all devices before bed each night. All tasks that need to be completed should have a specified timeframe for their completion. This ensures that they are consistently accomplished.

This will also help your kids know what to expect! We have the same morning rhythm; the same events happen in practically the same order each day. We rarely forget a step because it’s on autopilot, even for my 5-year-old.

Bonus Tip: They give themselves grace!

We all know that life doesn’t always go perfectly according to the plan. As a matter of fact, it rarely does. So be flexible with yourself, your kids, your husband, your co-workers, and your friends.

Give yourself the gift of grace each day, as well as gift it to those around you.

You’ll still mess up sometimes. You may forget to return that permission slip. You may misplace an important form. Your car may get messy from time to time.

And that’s okay! That’s when you give yourself grace.

Overall, though, you’re guaranteed to be so much more organized in your day-to-day life if you start to develop these 10 important habits!

Be a More Organized Woman Today

I encourage you to reflect on how you can implement these 10 habits of an organized woman into your life today. Find your weaknesses and start to work towards growth in those areas.

Let’s say you’re an excellent planner for the day ahead, but then when the time comes, you have trouble sticking to the plan.

What should your plan of action be? I would recommend starting with the hardest or most overwhelming task first, when you have the most energy and motivation. How much confidence you will feel if you can complete the overwhelming task, then everything else will seem like a piece of cake!

Know that God is with you every step of the way. Pray and invite Him into your daily life. Seek His help in moments of weakness. We can grow each day through God’s strength, whether that be in developing the fruit of the spirit in our lives or in becoming a more organized mom.

25 Goal Ideas for 2025

2025 is right around the corner!

It’s the perfect time to set your goals so you’re ready to start strong on January 1st.

Enjoy the holiday season but also take time to reflect on your aspirations for the upcoming year. What are your goals, hopes, and dreams for 2025?

Don’t wait until January arrives to think about your goals! Start now.

Consider my list of 25 goal ideas for 2025 as you determine your goals for the new year.

Whether you want to focus on improving your health, nurturing your relationships, managing your finances, or advancing your personal growth, you’ll find a goal from this list that resonates with you.

2025 goals

25 Goal Ideas for the New Year

1. Learn something new.

Make 2025 the year to finally tackle that skill or subject you’ve been longing to master.

Perhaps you want to learn a new language? You probably won’t become fluent in a year, but it’s certainly achievable to make significant progress.

Is there a new musical instrument you’re interested in trying out? Again, you might not become a pro, but dedicating 20 minutes daily to practice is a better use of your time than scrolling through social media.

Interested in starting a new handicraft? Whether it’s crocheting, or gem art, or pottery, these activities are a great way to relax in the evenings, rather than staring at your phone.

2. Read 1 book per month.

Indeed, this goal is achievable. Imagine, by year’s end, you’ll have 12 books complete—amazing!

Consider a 300-page book: if you divide it by the 30 days in a month, you only need to read 10 pages daily. Quite manageable, isn’t it?

Of course, pick books that interest you, ones you’re eager to read. Not books you feel obligated to read.

3. Exercise 3x a week.

Note that I didn’t advocate for daily exercise, as it’s often unrealistic for many to maintain. Instead, let’s focus on achievable goals. Consider walking three times a week, visiting the gym thrice weekly, or a mix of both activities.

Physical movement is crucial for your health and offers a multitude of benefits that could fill an entire blog post. Making health and fitness a top priority this year could be one of the best decisions you make for your well-being.

For more insights, check out this blog post about small habits that can make a big difference: HOW TO LOSE WEIGHT AND FEEL HEALTHIER: MICRO HABITS TO SHED THOSE POUNDS.

4. Save $500 a month.

Perhaps the suggested amount of $500 is not practical for you, and that’s perfectly fine. Choose an amount that is feasible for you to save and begin with that.

Unsure of where to start? Begin by considering the following questions, and you’ll likely identify an area to focus on first.

Could you eliminate a few non-essential items from your grocery list this week?

Might you consider asking for that sweater as a birthday gift instead of buying it now?

Should you avoid Amazon this week to prevent making purchases that seem necessary but aren’t?

Commit to saving a certain amount each month to ensure you’re financially better off this year. Although it might be challenging to resist those additional monthly purchases, the reward will be evident when you tally up your savings at the year’s end.

5. Participate in a “No Spend Month.”

To fully commit to the idea of saving, dedicate an entire month this year to not spending on non-essentials. This means eliminating all the additional expenses.

Of course, you’ll need to cover your bills and buy groceries. However, all the “extras,” such as weekly DoorDash orders or daily coffee runs, should be eliminated. Just try it for a month…and observe the benefits it has on your finances.

6. Start writing in a gratitude journal daily.

Invest in a notebook or journal reserved for expressing gratitude and thankfulness. Concentrating on gratitude has numerous advantages over dwelling on all the negative things.

Spending just 3-5 minutes each day on this practice can positively influence the start of your day. Alternatively, incorporating it into your nightly routine can be the final touch before you fall asleep, ensuring you end the day with positivity.

7. Declutter your entire home.

A peaceful space, a relaxing home, free from all the unnecessary clutter we accumulate. January is the perfect time to complete a thorough house declutter! With the holiday decorations stored away, we’re often left with residual items (like Christmas gifts, perhaps 50 extra toys without a place).

If you didn’t get around to decluttering before the holidays, the first month of a brand-new year is a prime opportunity to start.

Remember, decluttering isn’t just for your home; take some time to organize your phone and computer as well!

8. Go on a date night with your significant other.

For many, the idea of setting a New Year’s goal to schedule regular date nights may seem unusual, but parents with young children will understand that it’s indeed a worthy goal.

Whether you aim to set up monthly or even weekly date nights with your spouse, it’s important to plan these moments to strengthen your bond and maintain a healthy relationship.

Approach your marriage with intention this year, and you’ll reap the benefits in your marital relationship and your family life.

9. Wake up earlier (preferably before your kids!)

I once thought this was a lofty goal, but I can now confidently say that achieving an earlier wake up time is feasible. It may require some time and gradual adjustments, but it’s definitely doable.

To start, I would recommend adjusting your evening routine and bedtime slightly. For guidance, visit the blog post dedicated to my evening routine where I offer tips on what to accomplish at night to ensure a successful morning.

Why wake up before your children? Personally, I absolutely cherish that peace and quiet for at least 30 minutes before the rest of the house stirs. Ensure that you have a purpose for waking up: What’s your ‘Why’?

For a detailed look at my morning routine, check out my blog posts: MIRACLE MORNING ROUTINE: WAKING UP AT 5 AM and CREATING A MORNING ROUTINE YOU LOVE IN 4 EASY STEPS for more insights into my daily start.

10. Get enough sleep!

This goal complements the previous one. Prioritizing sufficient (and quality) sleep is essential for waking up early. Establish a bedtime for yourself, just as you would for your children. It’s not silly; it’s quite sensible. If you’ve having difficulty with falling or staying asleep, check out my 20 sleep tips to improve your sleep.

I have a ‘Lights Out’ policy at 9:30 pm on weekdays.

This guarantees I receive 7.5 hours of sleep, which usually allows me to wake up feeling refreshed the following day. Choose a bedtime that ensures you get sufficient sleep based on your personal needs; it doesn’t have to be as early as 9:30!

11. Cook more at home.

You’d be amazed (and appalled!) that based on an article from the New York Post, the average American spends over $2,500 a year eating out.

Cooking at home not only saves you money but can also promote healthier eating habits. By preparing meals at home, you can integrate whole, nutritious ingredients into your diet.

To make cooking at home a viable goal, it’s crucial to plan time for meal planning and regular grocery shopping. Could this be the reason why many opt for the convenience of eating out?

12. Eat more protein.

Often, we focus excessively on counting calories or determining the carbohydrate content of foods. It’s common to neglect protein and the importance of actively incorporating this vital nutrient into our daily diets.

This year, I urge you to look for ways to increase your daily protein consumption, incorporating it into each meal and snack. Check out my blog post about the importance of protein and a meal plan for over 100 grams of protein in a day!

13. Spend time in God’s Word each day.

If you wish to experience more of God’s peace, love, and joy this year, make this one of your primary goals.

Previously, I often went an entire week without dedicating time in the morning for quiet time with God. Since establishing this as a yearly goal, I am devoted to spending each morning in prayer and Bible study. While I haven’t been perfect and have skipped some days, my connection with God has deepened significantly.

I’ve even begun to yearn for this time with God in the morning and without it, my days seem incomplete.

14. Connect with a friend each week.

Many of you may connect with friends daily, which is wonderful! Personally, I find it requires a bit more effort to stay in touch with friends.

Whether it’s through a phone call, a lunch or coffee date, or arranging a play date for your children, try to make a connection with a friend each week.

15. Spend one day a week focusing on rest.

Do you feel the need to be constantly active like an Energizer bunny? Always on the move, with endless tasks to accomplish? You’re productive around the clock.

Whether that perfectly describes you or not, consider spending one day a week to focus on resting and recharging for the upcoming week. Perhaps this can be your Sunday? It’s perfectly fine to have a day of non-productivity and to dedicate this time to your family and self.

Even God rested on the 7th day after six days of creation. I think that’s permission enough for us to do the same (without feeling guilty!)

16. Bask in Vitamin D each morning.

Exposure to morning sunlight is important! Make it a point to spend 5-10 minutes outdoors each morning, and if possible, at various times during the day. It can enhance your sleep quality and boost your energy levels.

17. Don’t go to bed with a dirty sink.

This may seem like an insignificant goal, but I guarantee you’ll feel more relaxed and at ease by having a clear sink. It’s like shutting a restaurant down for the night: everything is cleaned up and the kitchen is “shut down” for the night.

Personally, I can fall asleep better knowing my kitchen (my sink!) is clean, leading to a more productive day ahead. Who wants to start their following day with a sink full of gross dishes?

18. Establish a skincare routine.

To begin the year on a positive note, establish a strict skincare routine that boosts your confidence. By strict, I mean, stick to it every morning and every night. You can’t use your products twice a week and expect to see a difference in your skin.

Invest in great skincare products that help you look and feel your best. If you don’t love your current products, don’t be afraid to change things up in this new year. Your skin is worth it!

19. Plan the night before.

There are planners, and then there are those who prefer to improvise and “go with the flow.”

If you belong to the second group, why not switch things up this year? The thought of planning ahead might not appeal to you, but give it a chance. Just for this year, give it a shot.

Setting a plan for the next day can enhance your productivity and focus. Aim to outline a simple plan each evening. This way, you’ll start your day with a clear direction and purpose.

20. Avoid phone use for an hour after waking up & an hour before going to sleep.

It’s just not necessary and will only hinder the healthy habits you are hoping to establish. In fact, I believe avoiding phone use during these times can aid in achieving success with other goals you’re pursuing.

Upon waking up, dedicate the first hour pouring into yourself: your physical health, your spiritual health, and your mental health. I can guarantee, your phone will not be helpful in improving any of those areas.

Before going to bed, using your phone is one of the worst things you can do! If often leads to staying up beyond what you intended and falling asleep with a million thoughts racing through your mind.

21. Dedicate one-on-one time to your children daily.

Connecting with your children doesn’t have to be time consuming, especially since many of us lead hectic lives. Even five minutes of cuddling and chatting about their day before bedtime is meaningful. Whether it’s reading a book together or playing a brief board game after school, the key is to make a conscious effort to connect with your children every single day.

Keep in mind that quality time outweighs quantity of time. Ten minutes of focused, uninterrupted attention can be more valuable than thirty minutes filled with distractions.

22. Adopt the practice of “cleaning as you go.”

If you’re aiming for a cleaner home this year, this method can be very effective. Always leave a room tidier than you found it. Put items away as soon as you’re finished with them.

Make your bed as soon as you get up. Wash the dishes immediately after meals. Clean the kitchen counters once you’re done using them. This approach can significantly streamline your household chores and leave your home feeling much tidier and organized.

23. Make new recipes each month.

If cooking or baking is your thing, then you’re in luck! With millions of recipes available, why not experiment with a new one this week?

Challenge yourself in the kitchen this year. Begin with the basics, but as you gain confidence, venture into new, exciting recipes that your family will love (or perhaps, not, if you’re dealing with picky eaters like mine).

But either way, there’s just something so satisfying about crafting a meal with your own hands.

24. Walk outside every morning (or evening).

This complements two previous goals I mentioned: exercising three times a week and basking in the morning sunlight! Walking is one of the simplest methods I’ve found to incorporate physical activity. Just put on a podcast or an audiobook and start walking.

In the morning, it serves as an excellent means to get active before the workday begins. In the evening, it offers a wonderful opportunity to witness the sunset and absorb the evening light, which is crucial for the production of melatonin.

25. Track your spending.

Are you curious to see where your money is going each month? Tracking your spending through an app or using a traditional Excel spreadsheet, can be great ways to visualize where your money is being allocated.

Regardless of whether you’re adhering to a budget, monitoring your expenses is advantageous. You simply need a tracking method: decide whether you will do it weekly or allocate time each month to review your expenditures.

Establish your Goals Now

Consider selecting 3-4 goals from this list, or come up with your own, to concentrate on throughout the upcoming year.

After identifying the goals you wish to prioritize this year, you can then devise a more detailed plan to realistically implement them into your life.

Come back soon for more goal setting inspiration and tips!

I intend to write about setting 12 Goals in 12 Months. Additionally, I plan to write about how to implement yearly goals into your daily routine.

Let’s make 2025 our most rewarding year yet! If being productive is what fulfills you, then dive in! If it’s prioritizing relationships that brings you fulfillment, then focus on that. Whatever ‘fulfilling’ signifies for you, make 2025 the year it happens.

Plan and Prepare Early for a Simple, Stress-Free Christmas

Christmas always sneaks up on me! Each year, it feels like school has just started and then suddenly, it’s the end of November. And I haven’t even begun to think about Christmas, much less prepare for it.

This year, things are going to be different. I’m already beginning to plan and prepare early. No more waiting until the last minute.

A stress-free Christmas. That’s the gift I’m giving to myself this year. No rushing around, no-sky high expectations.

Does the idea of a stress-free Christmas appeal to you? I’m convinced it’s entirely achievable with early planning and preparation. And deciding this: “You don’t have to do it all.”

Continue reading for tips and ideas on how you can have a simple, less stressful Christmas too!

Set a budget.

We try to avoid this B-word: budget. Whether you’re completely strict with the budget you set or you have some flexibility, it’s wise to have an overarching plan.

Discuss this issue with your spouse, so you’re both on the same page.

What should you set a budget for? Definitely Christmas gifts, as this tends to be our greatest expense by far. Don’t forget to include Christmas decorations and additional Christmas activities. If your budget can accommodate everything, that’s wonderful. If not, prioritize what matters most to you and your family this year.

Be realistic and don’t feel bad if you can’t do it all. Most of us can’t. But that doesn’t have to make your Christmas any less magical.

Create holiday gift lists.

Do you typically wait until the month of December to purchase all your Christmas gifts? No wonder the holidays stress you out! Consider spreading out your shopping and have it completed by December 1st! That’s a great goal.

For your children, compile ideas throughout the year as grandparents often inquire, “What do the kids want for Christmas?” Maintain an Amazon list for each child, adding items they’ve mentioned or that you believe they would enjoy. You can then share this list easily with family members. This year, I have created a spreadsheet with gift ideas, as well as links to the products.

Track gift ideas for other family members as well. When sales arise, you’ll know exactly what to buy and what to skip.

Aim to have all your ideas gathered before the Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping sales. I usually finalize the bulk of my shopping during this particular weekend. I’m always looking to take advantage of the sales. Never spend full price on an item if you can get it on sale! This strategy enables me to buy more or higher-quality gifts at a lower cost.

Establish a gift-wrapping station.

Consider setting up a “gift-wrapping station” in your home, a designated area where you store all the necessary wrapping supplies: tape, scissors, name tags, markers, and wrapping paper.

I purchase one or two large rolls of double-sided wrapping paper from Sam’s Club annually, giving me four different wrapping paper designs. Simplicity is key.

Develop a present-wrapping strategy. Decide whether to wrap gifts as you buy them, upon delivery, or to allocate one or two evenings to wrap everything at once.

With four children to shop for, I prefer to wrap gifts as they arrive whenever possible. Children have a knack for discovering even the best hiding spots, so this way, I don’t have to worry about any unwrapped gifts being found and potentially “ruining” Christmas.

Tip: Use a specific wrapping paper for each child (no name tags needed!), so they won’t know which presents are theirs until Christmas morning.

Determine traditions and activities you plan on doing this year.

Identify what is most important for you and your family. It’s irrelevant what your cousin or best friend does for their Christmas traditions; it must suit your family’s needs.

Did something not go as planned last year? Consider whether to omit it this year.

Was there an activity that everyone loved last year? Make sure to fit it in again this season.

Involve the kids in the planning. Allow each child to choose one non-negotiable activity they wish to do this year. For me, it’s all about making Christmas magical for my kids. If they are enjoying their holiday season, so am I!

For inspiration, refer to my Ultimate Christmas Bucket List post, which offers 25 ideas to try this year.

When should you start? Ideally, in November. Aim to have plans solidified before December 1st. This allows time for any necessary purchases, like a gingerbread house kit or any supplies needed.

Make a decor plan.

Take inventory of your existing Christmas decorations to determine if you need to purchase any new items this year—act quickly before they sell out!

  • Are you considering buying Christmas ornaments for your children?
  • Do you want to get a fresh wreath for your front door?
  • Are there any decorative pieces you need to fill in any gaps?

I encourage you to buy these items well before the weekend you plan to decorate to avoid any last-minute trips to the store.

I tend to use the same decorations each year, placing them in the same spots. Taking photos each year can be helpful to remind you where you’ve placed items in the past.

Sure, you can embrace creativity into your decorating this year, or feel free to display them as you have in past years if that’s your preference. Your kids will be thrilled and they’re unlikely to recall whether or not it’s the exact placement as the previous year.

When setting up lights and decorations outside, do so in advance to maximize your enjoyment. Ideally, aim to light them up the day after Thanksgiving!

Purchase festive outfits.

Ok, so Christmas-themed clothing definitely isn’t a necessity, but it can be a delightful addition to a festive Christmas, if it fits within your budget. Christmas pajamas and fancy attire for Christmas Eve are the essentials, in my opinion.

Securing a fresh, stylish outfit for everyone to wear on the Sunday before Christmas or to the Christmas Eve service is something I enjoy. Embrace the festive spirit with Christmas-themed sweaters or go all out with themed attire if that brings you joy.

Keep an eye out for sales. For example, if there’s a particular pajama set you’re eyeing for the children, consider setting up price drop alerts (offered by some retailers) to snag a bargain. However, it’s wise to have a final date in mind to avoid missing out.

Choose recipes to make.

Make a plan for the recipes you want to make during the Christmas season. You could create a Christmas 2024 Recipes Pinterest board to keep track of everything.

Stock up on baking essentials, like extra sugar, butter, flour, and any other ingredients. It’s best to have everything you need on hand, so you’re good to go, when the baking inspiration spikes.

Experiment with a couple new recipes this year! I encourage you to check out the amazing recipes Pinterest has to offer. Pick some simple recipes that allow the children to assist in the kitchen.

Decide on the menu for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day—whether you’re at home, meeting with family nearby, or traveling afar, ensure you plan your meals in advance.

Consider the “optional” things.

Consider carefully the “extras” this season. Engage in them only if they bring you peace and joy this Christmas. Say good-bye to unnecessary stress. Say “no” to the things that don’t truly matter. And embrace those that make your children’s eyes twinkle with wonder and excitement.

  • Are you considering a DIY project this year?
  • Would you like to make a Christmas craft with your children?
  • Do you need to buy tickets for any Christmas events?

Is sending out Christmas cards on your agenda this year? It seems less common these days. We haven’t sent them in years, and honestly, I don’t miss it. It’s a charming tradition, but the additional stress it brings is something I prefer to avoid.

Embrace all the beauty and joy of Christmas.

Planning ahead will allow you to fully enjoy the beauty and joy of Christmas this year.

I encourage you to keep it simpler than you think it needs to be. Go all out if that’s what you want. But…if you want to thoroughly enjoy Christmas, it’s not necessary to do everything.

You really don’t have to.

Indeed, purchasing and wrapping gifts is necessary. Yes, buying and preparing food is also essential. Decorating the house is part of the preparations, and planning fun activities for the family should not be overlooked.

But reflect on what you can eliminate. If you desire to have a simplified Christmas, you can in fact, achieve a simplified Christmas.

Participation in additional gift exchanges at work or church parties is not mandatory. Nor is it necessary to attend your neighbor’s band concert or your cousin’s choir concert. If these events bring you joy, then certainly participate in them! However, if they detract from the joy of Christmas, it’s okay to decline.

Your children and family will be fine. No one will suffer. In fact, you will most likely benefit from embracing simplicity.

Consider the humble birth of Jesus in a stable, laid in a manger. There were no extravagant decorations; it was the epitome of simplicity. The King of Kings arrived in calm and silence, in an ordinary barn. Find peace in Jesus this Christmas season.

Miracle Morning Routine: Waking Up at 5 AM

Are you looking for a miracle to transform your mornings? If you’ve been feeling like every morning is a chaotic race to the finish line, I might have just the solution for you. Introducing The Miracle Morning Routine.

Could this really be the “miracle” routine you’re looking for? Maybe.

miracle morning routine

If you haven’t heard of the Miracle Morning Routine, based on Hal Elrod’s book, The Miracle Morning, it’s worth exploring. Instead of purchasing or borrowing the book, I’ll provide you with an overview of the Miracle Morning principles.

The Miracle Morning consists of six short, simple self-improvement activities you are to complete every morning. It follows the acronym of SAVERS, each letter represents a particular activity to accomplish in your morning routine.

Are you ready to commit an hour to self-improvement before your daily responsibilities begin? Improving your spiritual health, physical health, mental, and emotional health?

It has the potential to create a significant impact in your life!

First, let’s decipher what each letter stands for and then explore how to incorporate each one into your morning routine. My personal Miracle Morning takes one hour total to complete all six of the steps.

miracle morning routine

The first S stands for Silence.

There’s nothing like the sweet sound of silence in the early morning hours.

Before the world wakes up. Before your kids wake up.

There’s something marvelous about it!

Whether you’re enjoying a cup of hot coffee while enjoying your silence, or spending time in prayer, silence is a great way to start the day.

Ways to Practice Silence:

  • Prayer
  • Meditation
  • Simply sitting (maybe outdoors?)
  • Gratitude
  • Reflection
  • Deep breathing exercises

Any of the ideas above would be a perfect start to the day. Choose what feels best for you in that moment. It can vary from day to day.

TIME: 6 minutes

A stands for Affirmations.

Affirmations are beneficial for beginning your day with positive talk rather than the negative self-talk we tend to gravitate towards.

They can be “I am…” statements that affirm who you believe yourself to be, like “I am confident” or “I am brave.”

I take a more biblical focus on my affirmations. My goal with affirmations is to speak truth over my life and over my day. God’s truth.

I have a whole list of 31 biblical affirmations that I speak aloud each morning (one for each day of the month!) They are all based on truths found in the Bible.

Here’s a few examples to get you started:

I have hope and a future in the Lord. (“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11)

I am strong and courageous. (Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9)

I am God’s masterpiece. (For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10)

TIME: 2 minutes

miracle morning routine

V stands for Visualization.

Initially, I was skeptical about the necessity of the visualization step, but it gradually became apparent to me.

What does it mean exactly? Think of it as imagining what you want to achieve in your life (or that particular day) and how you will actually work to achieve it.

It sounds complicated, but let me walk you through it.

So, you have your to-do list and/or your goals for the day. Now, close your eyes and actually imagine yourself accomplishing each thing. You can imagine yourself at your computer, feeling focused and having mental clarity. You can imagine yourself feeling patient and present with your toddlers during morning playtime and a temper tantrum.

Certainly, it’s not possible to predict every event of the day, but concentrate on the goals you wish to accomplish and the emotions you aspire to experience while pursuing them.

Still need some help with understanding visualization in greater detail, check out this podcast episode, which dives deeper into the power of visualization.

E is for Exercise.

I hope the word doesn’t fill you with dread. I understand the feeling, as I’ve been there, but remember, it’s time for a change.

This does not mean you need to go to the gym and work your butt off for 1 whole hour at 5 am. Unless that’s already part of your routine! Then great, by all means, continue with that.

For the rest of us, exercise can mean any type of movement. A walk. A yoga workout video you found on You Tube. A whole-body workout of your choice. Stretching your body.

Whatever form of movement you choose, be consistent each morning. Put your 20 minutes in and then continue on with the rest of your day, feeling accomplished.

R is for Reading!

This is definitely the step I love the most! A dedicated time each day spent on reading.

The aim of this morning’s reading session is personal growth and self-improvement. Therefore, select a non-fiction book about a subject you’re eager to explore. Whether it’s health and wellness, parenting, or a new hobby, this time is ideal for gaining that knowledge.

If you want to deepen your relationship with God, you can choose a devotional book or your Bible!

The second S stands for Scribing.

Scribing simply means writing or journaling (but those words don’t fit the acronym!)

There are numerous ways to complete this step, and it can vary depending on your mood on any given day.

Ways to Practice Scribing:

  • Gratitude journaling
  • Composing a prayer
  • Journal prompts
  • Free writing
  • Setting out your goals
  • Reflecting on the previous day
  • Writing a book (if you’re really ambitious!)

You can invest in a special journal to use daily during this period. Even a simple spiral notebook is sufficient!

TIME: 10 minutes

My 1-hour Miracle Morning Routine (with Time stamps)

5:30am-Start my morning with prayer (silence).

I dedicate time to pray for my children, my marriage, myself, and any other prayer requests that are weighing on my heart (for 6 minutes). Starting my day in communication with my Father, my Creator, is the best way to begin my day!

(Option #2: Spend time meditating on a bible verse).

Then, I’ll take a couple of minutes to recite my biblical affirmations (for 2 minutes) and visualize (for 2 minutes) what I hope to accomplish that day.

5:40am-Time for Exercise

I head outdoors for a nice, brisk 20-minute walk around my neighborhood. The crisp air is refreshing and helps to get my circulation going.

Don’t forget to hydrate!

(Option #2: Complete a 20-minute MadFit workout video (found on YouTube), which is what I choose some days).

Around 6:00am-Reading Time!

I typically spend about 20 minutes reading the current Bible study book I’m progressing through, as well as reading the accompanying Bible passages.

Currently, I’m in the first week of Breaking Free by Beth Moore. It involves extensive reading and responding to questions, so technically I could integrate reading and scribing into a single step.

(Option #2: Read my current non-fiction book, which is The Power of a Praying Wife.)

6:20am-Writing is the Last Step

I dedicated ten minutes to journal writing today. Without a specific prompt, I filled just over a page with my thoughts, feelings, and any random ideas that came to mind.

(Option #2: Writing a prayer. Option #3: Responding to a prompt. For example, earlier this week, I listed all the things that bring me joy).

6:30am-Miracle Morning Routine is finished

After completing my hour of personal growth time and time with God, it’s now time to get ready for the day and make the kid’s school lunches.

Final Thoughts on the Miracle Morning Routine

  • Don’t be afraid to change the order of the SAVERS. Try out different sequence of events to see which order you prefer. You could complete all the sit-down activities first before finishing up with your workout. OR you could do the workout first and the other activities after that!

  • Upon waking, I found it challenging to engage in silent prayer immediately, as some days I feel especially groggy. You could even combine exercise time (walking outside) with silence (praying as you walk).

  • I enjoy having a journal prompt most days, so I’m able to focus my thoughts on one topic. It helps me keep track of my thoughts and have a positive outlook for the day.

  • I try to complete my quiet time with God (bible reading) during the miracle morning routine, rather than any other self-development reading. If I don’t fit my Bible reading in the morning, I don’t tend to make time for it later on in the day.

  • I realized that, in a way, I’ve practiced visualization previously. Many mornings I would journal 3 things that would make today great. Visualizing just takes this one step further, by focusing more on the emotions and actually imagining doing these “great things.”

You CAN Have a Miracle Morning Routine: Try it Today!

I loved incorporating all these aspects into my morning routine. While I usually try to spend time reading my bible and praying each morning, it was nice to devote a complete hour to these activities. A full hour to work on myself and focus on my relationship with God.

If you desire your focus to be solely on personal development and growth, that’s great. However, as a Christian, I like to spend the bulk of this time on my relationship with God and setting my focus on Him for the day.

Take at these amazing stats below! Your devotion to one hour a day adds up tremendously over the course of a year! We’re talking BIG CHANGES.

1 hour a day for 365 days=365 hours spent on improving yourself.

2 minutes a day speaking affirmations=12 hours a year spent speaking truth.

20 minutes a day reading=over 120 hours of reading a year

20 minutes a day spent exercising=over 120 hours a year spent moving your body

10 minutes a day writing=over 60 hours a year spent writing

6 minutes a day in silence =36 1/2 hours in prayer and/or meditation

It’s crazy to see how that small amount of time spent each day practicing these powerful habits can make such a big impact in a year’s time!

Don’t underestimate the power of an hour a day spent on yourself in the mornings.

Maybe this 1 hour a day can be the miracle you’re looking for??

TIP: You can even simplify it if needed. If you only have an extra 30 minutes in the morning, you can still do the Miracle Morning, just shorten each SAVERS step to what you have time for.

Give as much time and effort as you can, and you’ll be sure to see the results in your life! Guaranteed!

The Best Weekly Reset Routine: Prepare for the Week Ahead

It’s a glorious Sunday afternoon. The day after an amazing fun-filled Saturday spent with your family and friends. This is the day of rest, right? Naps. Watching TV. Being a couch potato.

Well…you can certainly set aside some time for that. But I want to offer another option: a Weekly Reset Routine. I guarantee you’ll be glad you made time for a reset. It will set you up for success in the week ahead!

I definitely take time to relax and reflect on Sundays. My family and I spend the morning at church and then go out for lunch together. Sundays often include a short nap and additional family time, but making time to plan and prepare for the week ahead is invaluable.

reset routine

With full transparency here, sometimes my reset lasts a couple of days and I finish it on Monday. I don’t always complete everything on Sunday and that’s okay. But I do always make sure I have prepared sufficiently so that we proceed into Monday morning with a sense of calm.

I’m not scrambling to find food to shove in lunchboxes at 7 am. I’m not searching for missing shoes when it’s time to head to school. And I’m surely not staring at an empty milk jug when everyone wants cereal for breakfast.

The food in the refrigerator is pretty much cleared out by Sundays. Our space could use a good tidy. And this mama could use a half hour to spend on self-care.

A weekly reset routine is a great way to organize your life and ensure you’re well-prepared for the week ahead. I’ll now share my 6-step Weekly Reset routine. Incorporate the steps that are beneficial to you into your routine, and feel free to add your own steps!

1. Meal Plan and Grocery List

I’d encourage you to complete a quick fridge cleanout first, in order to purge those questionable leftovers and inedible vegetables. You know, the food items that have been hanging out in your fridge a little too long. This will also help you determine what ingredients you already have and ensure you don’t buy more of what you don’t need. This should take 5-10 minutes tops.

Then, I take all of 10 minutes to make a meal plan for the week. I plan dinners for 6 nights, as we usually eat out one night. Since I have four children (ages 5-12), you’ll notice that my meals are very basic and “kid-friendly.” I have shown below what a typical meal plan for our family might look like.

Your meal plan can be as complex (or as simple) as you choose. At the bare minimum, plan out each dinner for the week. If it’s helpful for you to have breakfasts and lunches pre-planned, do that too. It is worth your time to do anything that makes your life easier and streamlined in the long run!

I aim to only get groceries once a week. To ensure this happens, I write out my grocery list, taking into consideration what I already have on hand and the ingredients I need for each meal.

We always eat the same breakfasts and lunches each week, so I know to buy those essentials as well. Write a complete grocery list. Don’t expect to remember everything you need, it’s essential to actually write everything down. Or you’ll be kicking yourself later when you have to go back to the store again for those tortillas or cream of chicken soup.

If there are any additional recipes I’m planning on making, I’ll make sure those ingredients are stocked in my pantry or purchased. For example, this particular week, I’m going to bake chocolate chip cookies and prep protein energy balls.

2. Get groceries

Whether you decide to go grocery shopping on a Sunday afternoon (not ideal for me), do grocery pickup, or have them conveniently delivered, the choice is yours. Just get the groceries! I can assure you, it feels so nice to have plenty of food to start the week (not to mention you’ll probably eat healthier all week too, if that’s a goal of yours).

This week, I decided to order groceries so I could spend extra time with my family. There’s an available Walmart delivery time from 4-6 pm, so that’s perfect timing. Once the groceries arrive, I’ll have everything restocked and ready to go for the following day.

3. Food Preparation

What food is most important for you to have prepared ahead of time? Make time for what is the priority at this point, so you can focus on that. The rest can wait. You don’t have time to do it all.

I usually keep it pretty simple here. Then, I will make time the following day or later in the week to prepare additional food items.

Here are the bare essentials for this week:

  • Wash & cut strawberries
  • Wash & prep grapes
  • Cut bananas to freeze for smoothies
  • Bake mini chocolate chip muffins

Having easy breakfasts is crucial in my home, so I will freeze the mini muffins, and they will be available to pull out of the freezer on school mornings. Here’s the recipe we use and my kids love them! If time allows for you to prepare anything further, you could consider making Egg Bites for breakfasts or simple lunches for yourself. I found it to be super-efficient to have a few fruits prepared in order to easily pack kid’s lunches, so don’t forget to wash and cut those strawberries!

4. Planning

This step is a MUST! You absolutely cannot start your new week and have no plan of action.

Do you have a paper planner you use, or do you use Google Calendar for your planning? Please tell me you use some form of planning!! If not, you can start now!

Take a look at the appointments or events coming up. Think through everything else you hope to accomplish and pencil it into the day and even the specific time slot that would be appropriate.

Check out my blog post on Time Blocking to learn more about the amazing time-blocking method that will be sure to increase your productivity for the week: TIME BLOCKING: A BEGINNER’S GUIDE.

Things to consider when planning:

  • What do you need to buy?
  • What bills are due this week?
  • What appointments or events are on the schedule?
  • What do your kids need for school?
  • What other things do you need to remember?

I won’t go into detail as to how I plan my week in this blog post, but I do use my Notes app for everything I need to remember. I like to time block my week in Google Calendar as well, although I usually just complete this step the night before.

At least have an overview of the week planned, as well as a game plan for the next day (Monday). I have found that I’m most productive on Mondays and I contribute that fact to my planning ahead. Don’t underestimate the power of planning!

5. Tidying the house

This doesn’t mean an all-out deep clean of every surface and every crevice of your home. Think of it as starting with a clean slate for the week ahead. Again, you’ll want to focus on what is most important considering the time that you have available.

Areas to consider cleaning for your weekly reset:

  • Bathrooms: Give each bathroom a good wipe-down: the counters, mirrors, & toilets. This is a space you use multiple times a day and cleanliness is necessary.

  • Floors: Vacuum the floors in the main area and mop if you have time. Since the main space tends to get the messiest, I would just stick with that.

  • Tidy main area: Put all items back “in their home;” this just means things go back to the room/container where they belong. Kid’s toys, shoes, and any other items that have wandered from their place.

  • Trash: Throw out all trash around the house and empty all trash cans.

These areas will give you the biggest bang for your buck. The greatest impact for the smooth transition into the busy work/school routine.

If laundry is essential for you on the weekends, definitely get caught up. I stick to the one load a day method, so I don’t have a bunch to do on Sunday.

I promise you will feel much better with a less cluttered and cleaner home. Your mind and thoughts will be clearer and it can even help lower your stress levels. Who doesn’t want that??

selfcare

6. Take some time for self-care

Ahhh, it’s finally time to relax. Take the time for YOU. How you do this depends on you.

  • A nice hot, relaxing bubble bath
  • An invigorating face mask
  • An at-home pedicure experience
  • Reading your current fiction choice
  • A hot, relaxing tea
  • A piece of scrumptious dark chocolate

I’m sure we could go on and on with our list, but I’m sure you’ve thought of a few ways you can take time to care for yourself this week.

For me, I would choose to snuggle up with a book and a cup of coffee for an hour. Give me two hours and I’ll be in heaven.

As moms, sometimes we tend to neglect taking care of our needs. Or we don’t see self-care as a need, but more a want. Carving out an hour or so on Sunday evenings to dedicate to us is a great time investment.

If you want to dive more into some ideas on faith-based self-care ideas to really, truly care for your soul, check out this blog post: SELF-CARE FOR WOMEN: 20 FAITH-BASED SELF-CARE IDEAS.

Reset to Start Your Week off on the Right Track

After completing these 6 steps, you’ll be sure to continue with a successful week!

Of course, you can enlist your family to help you out too. You shouldn’t have to carry the full burden on your own.

Your meals are planned, and food is prepped. Your home is tidy. A plan is set for the week (subject to change of course). And you’ve taken some well-needed time to care for your body, soul, and mind.

Keep up the momentum throughout the week ahead, but don’t forget to take the time to relax and invest in yourself too. And in your relationships with God and your loved ones.

Rest and self-care are so important. When you take time to replenish your spirit, it allows you to serve from the overflow. You cannot serve from an empty vessel.
